While expanding into console games is possible, it is certainly harder than expanding into a game that is played on the computer. For instance, one of the complications is getting those whom you recruit to register on the forums - and even more so to get them to visit the forums regularly; this is largely because of the fact that in playing a game online on a console system, you are in essence "disconnected" from the rest of us, since you are not actually on your computer when playing these sorts of games. As such, if those you recruit only play console games, then they may not even be willing to register on our forums. Another complication that arises is that, to my understanding, online communication on the Playstation 2 is all done via a microphone (voice communication) as it is on the Xbox, rather than via a keyboard (typing); the problem with this (assuming there is not some way in which you can use a keyboard on your Playstation 2) is that since you will be limited to communicating via your voice, it will be harder to get the URL for these forums known, since you won’t be able to type it out for everyone to quickly see and write down; by this same token, you would also not have the advantage of the auto-admin feature that we have on both of our Battlefront II servers’, which periodically states the URL of these forums, among other things.
In addition to everything I mentioned above, which may or may not prove to be complications, the biggest issue of all is if it is easy to host servers for any of these games’ – in order for any recruiting initiative to be successful, you simply must have your own server which can be used for recruiting purposes, as we do with both our “FSB Recruiting” and “FSBClan_Space” servers on Battlefront II.
Our rule for starting test divisions is that you generally must have two current FSB members interested (who also have the game) in the game in order for it to be a test division; once the test division has a total of five or more active members, it is considered a full division. However, since we currently have no functioning test divisions, I might allow one (because it is not a good idea to try and start multiple test divisions all at once) of these games (preferably Monster Hunter because it is on the Playstation 2 and does not require a special program to be played online) to be established as a test division, after you recruit one person (who must also sign up and post on these forums) in one of these games.
However, before I can authorize this, I need you to answer the following questions when you can:
1. Is it is possible to use a keyboard on the Playstation 2 so that you are not limited to communicating via only your voice? If not, do you feel you will still be able to effectively recruit and run a test division in one of these games while being limited to voice communication?
2. If one of these games where to be established as a test division, would you easily be able to host your own recruiting server which would be titled “FSB Recruiting” (without the quotation marks)?
Please answer these questions when you can, and then we can further discuss the possibility of establishing a test division in one of these games’.
