Hi all! Haven't stopped by in a little while so thought I'd go to some far more experienced players than myself for help as an engineer. I regularly play Egypt, and I know that in Stage 1 (for those trying to remember which one that is, it features the first CP right next to the respawn for the attacking team with 2 tunnel exits) there are a series of columns surrounding the first CP with long blocks on top of them, and scaffolding going up one side. I have seen engineers somehow plant teleporters on top of the columns, but I have no idea how to jump that high.
I figure the engis are just jumping onto the bottom lip of the columns, then jumping again without actually reaching the top and just smashing the "build teleporter" key. I've used that technique a few times myself, but in order to do it you have to be on the lip of the column/block, and from the scaffolding there's no way I can reach it.
Anyone know what I'm talking about and how to get up there? Thanks!

Ok so I ran into a slight problem... um, I can't crouch-jump to save my life, lol. I can jump then crouch, which gets you on top of a dispenser or sentry no problem, but the secret apparently has to do with crouching, jumping, then crouching again, all in immediate succession. According to websites, you start to crouch, and just as you get halfway down (not all the way) you jump, which takes all of 1 second, then immediately hold down the crouch key again. If successful it gets you to jump higher than normal where you can plant teleporters and such. But I can't figure it out no matter how hard I try! Anyone know how how to do it successfully?

And indeed someone does! I went to the following forum and posted a thread, and here is the response so far: www.teamfortress2fort.com/forums/t/Thecrouchjump-25057.aspxSo it doesn't give you added height, but it can be useful for reaching higher objects. Which doesn't help me much as I still can't do 90% of the things shown in that series of Youtube videos I posted. They recommended adding a .cfg file to my Team Fortress 2 settings, which I haven't experimented with yet but might be willing to try. It sounds like it just links jump and crouch together each time you jump, so your jumps always turn into crouch-jumps. If that's the case, it should be worth it.

Well I've been a complete fool lol. I was discussing this with Volxen last night - turns out the entire time when I was jumping on top of dispensers and sentries, that IS the crouch-jump! It's really not that big a deal, or hard to do at all, so all that coding crap I mentioned above is useless. But the thing I was doing wrong, which nobody told me about or mentioned in any of the forums/websites I visited, is that the sentry gives you a higher boost than standing on your dispenser. Why did no one mention this? Who knows. But now I can access the tops of the columns in Egypt, among other things, so the world has opened to me. Hallelujah!

lol! It's always the simple things! I did not know that there was a height difference between the dispenser and the sentry! *bonks head*
